The United Way in Milford has started its own COVID-19 relief fund to help people struggling during the pandemic.
Just under $10,000 has been donated to the Milford fund, but president Gary Johnson says United Way groups across the state of Connecticut are working together and have raised more than $600,000. Johnson says he wanted to do something more on a local level for Milford so their fund could be used for people struggling to pay utility bills or buy food.
He says the $10,000 funds raised by the Milford United Way could be used in case someone requires emergency shelter too.
"Whatever their need might be, we're here to help," Johnson says.
Milford-based Trinity Point Wealth donated to the fund, and it says it has been fortunate to maintain work at its firm during the outbreak, and it wants to help others who many not be so lucky.
"We're fortunate to keep working at my firm, but wherever we can help other people in our community, we're really proud to do that," Lise Robinson says.
