Some neighborhood post offices may be shut down by the United States Postal Service throughout southwestern Connecticut.

The U.S.P.S. says the closing of smaller offices may be necessary in order to escape significant financial dilemmas.

Norwalk?s Postal Sub Station located on New Canaan Avenue is one of these small post offices, but is not in danger of closing. Glen?s Variety Store owner and Sub Station operator Glen Dudas says this is because they are under contract with the postal service to collect a percentage of revenues.

Connecticut Postal Service spokesperson Maureen Marion says a major reason for the cuts is today?s growing technology, or possible consolidation of smaller postal branches.

Some customers believe neighborhood post offices should stay as is because of the convenience.

No decision will be made on this issue until at least this fall.
