Vanessa Roberts Avery has been confirmed as the state's first Black woman U.S. Attorney for Connecticut.
Roberts was confirmed Wednesday by the Senate by a voice vote.
She will serve a term of four years.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal wrote in a Tweet, "Vanessa Avery is a proven prosecutor, a thoughtful leader, and a champion for CT’s people. She is a dedicated and diligent public servant with broad experiences across the legal profession that will no doubt inform and inspire her work as U.S. Attorney."
Avery is from New Haven.
