Members of the Applied Behavioral Rehabilitation Institute are looking to establish a social services and transition housing facility for female veterans in Connecticut, but have faced a road block in obtaining property.

According to the ABRI, there are between 7,000 and 8,000 homeless female veterans in Connecticut. Despite the existence of Homes of the Brave, a center for homeless male veterans in Bridgeport, there are no options for female veterans who struggle to adapt to civilian life upon returning from their tours of duty.

Officials from ABRI say the institute is trying to place a bid for two Norwalk properties, but they learned Monday that they weren?t given the chance to interview with the Land Use Committee. A member of the bid committee said Tuesday that the institute is not being discounted from the bidding process.

A public meeting will be held Jan. 15 to discuss purchasing the property. ABRI asks residents to come out in support of their plan.
