Residents came together Saturday for Westport’s inaugural Pride Rally.
Brian McGunagle, the founder of Westport Pride, says he spent months with other organizations to put together the event in Jesup Green.
“We're here so that those who feel like they don’t have a voice, and especially the youth who may be struggling or questioning who they are, have a place and a presence to know they are loved and a part of the community,” McGunagle says.
Families at the event told News 12 Westport Pride gave them the identity and visibility they needed.
"Families come in all different shapes and sizes and colors, and we're glad we can celebrate together and we're all included,” says Bethany Eppner
Community members, including Staples High School students, gave speeches and delivered performances.
Westport Pride says they plan on doing more events throughout the year.
