Dozens of practices, close to 20 games and scrimmages, everyday baseball for about two whole months all paid off for the Westport 10U Little League baseball squad as they were celebrated at Westport’s Town Hall yesterday.
First Selectman Jim Marpe handed each player a certificate congratulating them on a job well done during the ceremony.
Westport defeated East Lyme 11-0 to capture the state championship back at the beginning of August.
"It feels awesome,” said Marc Theisinger, the coach of the Westport 10U Little League team.
“We had such an amazing run this summer. Such a great group of kids, they worked so hard. It was all about the camaraderie, the teamwork, and it wasn't just baseball. It was having fun. It was enjoying a summer they'll never forget and hoping to keep this group together for the next couple years. And really happy that we brought this home not only for the kids, but for the town. Baseball is a great sport. Hopefully, we attract more kids to want to play the game.”
The Westport club, if they continue to excel, might be due for a trip to Williamsport two years from now.
