Westport police officers shaved their beards Monday after their monthlong participation in a "No Shave November" contest that raised money to fight cancer.
Officers gathered at the H Salon in Fairfield where the shave-off event took place Monday evening.
The Westport Police Department says they have surpassed their initial goal of $1,500 by raising more than $4,000.
This event is the first "No Shave November" event in which the Westport police have participated.
Many officers say they know someone who is battling or has battled cancer and they are happy to make a difference.
The Westport Police Department says the money they raised will be split evenly among St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, American Cancer Society and the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
