Westport police: 2 missing from boat that sank near Cockenoe Island; 3 rescued

Police say they found a man standing on a navigational buoy around 4 p.m. Another male and a female were rescued from the water. Through a translator, it was learned that there were a total of five people on a small boat that sank.

Two people are missing in the waters near Cockenoe Island, according to three boaters who were rescued late Sunday afternoon by Westport police.
Police say they found a man standing on a navigational buoy around 4 p.m. Another male and a female were rescued from the water.
Through a translator, it was learned that there were a total of five people on a small boat that sank.
The two missing men are from Spring Valley, New York and Suffern, New York, police say.
According to Westport police:
“Westport Police Marine Division, with the assistance of the US Coast Guard, Norwalk Police Marine Division, Fairfield Police Marine Division, and Suffolk County Air Unit are actively searching the waters in an attempt to locate the vessel that these individuals were on and the two missing parties.”
Authorities are asking any boaters who were in the area of Cockenoe Island between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to contact the Westport Police Department at 203-341-6000.
