A Westport police officer is being credited for saving a man who was preparing to take his own life.
Officer Brian Meraviglia was driving over the Redding Road overpass Wednesday morning when he saw a man leaning over the side.
The officer got out of car and started talking to the person, who he said was obviously distraught.
Eventually Meraviglia got close enough to the man to grab him and move him away from the edge.
Both Meraviglia and a good Samaritan were able to comfort the man. The man was then taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
