In this week's "What's Ailing You" report, a Fairfield mother says she's often discouraged to learn about chemicals and additives in foods.
Amanda Hanson says some of the labels are so hard to read with additives, preservatives and chemicals that people can't pronounce.
New Canaan-based nutritionist Jill Castle says it's not always easy to figure out what ingredients are in food, especially when you're on the go or at the store.
She says consumers should bring their cellphone to the store because the Internet can help decipher what the ingredients are.
Consumers can also go to the manufacturer's website and see what the ingredients are. Castle says Google is a wonderful vehicle for finding more information, but it's important to make sure that you're getting your information from a credible source.
