Doctors say belly fat is actually a red flag because it can be a sign that your body's insulin production is out of whack. Dr. Powlimi Soni, of Norwalk-based Soundview Medical, says it's important to attack this issue before it wreaks long-term havoc on your blood sugar levels and heart health.
Dr. Soni says to cut down on carbs, increase protein and produce intake, exercise aerobically for 30 minutes a day and drink water to flush out extra calories.
If you have belly fat and want to know if it's causing insulin resistance in your body, you can find out through blood work.
