Wheres the beef? Police in Connecticut search for missing beefalo that escaped processing facility
Police in Connecticut say they are searching for a missing beefalo that escaped an animal processing facility and is now roaming loose near Plymouth.
The beefalo, which police say is a cross between a bison and domestic cattle, came from a farm in Massachusetts and escaped a nearby animal processing facility two weeks ago.
Police say the animal can range between 900 and 1,300 pounds, and was last seen in the woods near the area off of Route 72 and Judd Road in the Terryville section of town on Aug. 26 when police attempted to wrangle the livestock.
Plymouth police officers say they encountered the beefalo after a 911 call of a loose bull and attempted to take control of the animal, but that it demonstrated behavior as if it was going to charge by putting its head down and scratching at the ground.
As officers moved away from the animal, it retreated into the woods.
Police are urging the public not to approach the animal, and to contact the Plymouth Police Department at 860-589-7779 or to call 911 if they see it.
