White House awards Medal of Valor to 3 Stamford firefighters following water rescue

Three members of the Stamford Fire Department are recipients of the nation's highest award for first responders -- the Medal of Valor.
Firefighters John Colandro, Michael Rosero and Chad Titus were honored at the White House Monday for their bravery in a dramatic rescue in February.

During the incident in Cummings Park, a truck went into the water and was filled with chunks of ice. The crew got one person out of the back and as the truck was sinking, broke a window to pull the second to safety.
"We could not be happier to see the president of the United States award them the highest medal for public safety," said Deputy Chief Matthew Palmer.
These first responders were not on the dive team, they were just in cold water suits, which all firefighters in the city are trained for.
