A Milford woman says her 91-year-old mother was sexually assaulted by a 97-year-old fellow resident of an assisted living facility in Seymour.
Court records obtained by News 12 say Nicholas Minuto, of Seymour, was arrested last November on a misdemeanor count of sexual assault. It alleges that Minuto assaulted Ann Russo in her apartment at the Smithfield Gardens Assisted Living Facility.
Russo's daughter, Ann Wayne, and granddaughter, Laurie Sheehan, say she can no longer speak due to a medical condition, and they believe the alleged abuse repeatedly occurred over several months, until it was reported by a witness.
The victim's family says they have since moved her to a facility in Milford, but they are still reeling from the experience.
A spokesman for Smithfield Gardens says the facility is in the process of evicting Minuto due to the criminal charges against him.
According to court records, Minuto is charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and is free on a promise to appear in court next month.
