A pedestrian was killed today in a crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway.
Police say a woman in her 30s was struck by a pickup truck in the northbound lanes while trying to cross the busy parkway near Exit 3E.
A highway police officer told News 12 The Bronx off camera that the woman was in a parked car with her boyfriend or husband on the service road. The officer says it appears the couple got into an argument and the woman ran out of the car toward the parkway.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the driver of the truck stayed until emergency crews arrived.
They say the victim's significant other was so distraught witnessing the fatal impact that he suffered chest pains and had to be taken to a hospital.
The parkway near exit 3E was reopened mid-morning after being closed for several hours following the accident.
