A woman died Saturday evening after being hit by a northbound train in Westport.
The woman was killed on the tracks near Hales Road after 6 p.m. Metro-North Police joined Westport's squad in responding to the death.
Police have not ruled whether the death was an accident or possibly a suicide. Neighbors say there is no reason for someone to be walking near the secluded section of track.
Investigators were on the scene late into the night. Riders on the train experienced about a 90 minute delay, and Metro-North officials say other trains had to cope with sporadic delays as they traveled slowly through the investigation scene.
Authorities have not released the woman's identity yet. Police expect to release her name within the next few days.
