A Norwalk native who now lives in Florida will be reunited with priceless family photos from more than half a century ago and it's all thanks to a local woman and social media.
Cari Koukidis' husband purchased a photo album at an estate sale. She cleaned out his office last week and came across the book of memories for the first time.
"Everybody just looks happy, I just couldn't throw it out," said Koukidis.
Koukidis resolved to track down the album's owner or at least their living relatives. Newspaper clippings gave her a starting point.
"Marion Hatter -- she was a drum majorette at Norwalk High," said Koukidis. "The second clue I had was the engagement announcement of Marion Hatter and Philip McIntyre."
Koukidis posted on the I Love Norwalk CT! Facebook page in search of answers. She says within a day she found a lead -- Tammy McIntyre Barta.
Barta now lives in Sarasota, Florida, but a friend saw the social media post and forwarded it on.
"I read it, I saw that it was Philip McIntyre and I knew -- my father had a brother named Philip.," Barta said. "So I contacted Cari back, I said, 'Yes this is my uncle, this is his family.'"
A piece of Barta's history will now be sent her way, a chance to reconnect to generations past.
"She did something really good. I mean, she could've just thrown it away," Barta said.
Koukidis says she could never do that. A box of her grandmother's family photos got lost during a move years ago. She says she has always held on to the hope that someday they'd be returned home.
"I kind of did what I wished somebody would've done for me with my family photos, you know?" said Koukidis. "It kind of came full circle."
Barta says she was so touched, she plans to thank Koukidis in person the next time she is in Connecticut.
