Police have identified the human remains that were found Sunday morning inside of a NYCHA complex in Williamsburg.
According to the NYPD, the body of 39-year-old Michelle Montgomery, of Boerum Hill, was found in the basement of the Borinquen Plaza building located at 330 Bushwick Ave.
Sources told News 12 that Montgomery’s body was found inside of a garbage bag in the compactor room. They said a NYCHA worker was moving garbage bags inside of the compactor room, when she struggled to lift a heavy bag. That worker tore the bag open and found the victim’s body inside.
Residents said the discovery deeply disturbing.
“I saw a whole bunch of cops right here [in the lobby] and upstairs,” said Nate Torres, of Williamsburg. “It is a little shocking and a little crazy because it is my building…Nowadays anything can happen and you just have to be safe.”
“You don’t know what people’s mind can do out here, killing people and putting them in a garbage bag. That’s not good,” said Bradley St. Hilaire, of Williamsburg.
Police called the death “suspicious.” The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the official cause of death.
As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made.
