The Yankees are reportedly hiring two Washington lobbyists to help get federal approval to build a new stadium in the Bronx.

According to the New York Post, the team recruited former Congressman Bill Paxon (R-NY) and lawyer Michael Rosetti to try to get fast federal approval for the stadium as community members and park advocates prepare to sue to block the construction. Under the law, the Yankees must replace all the parkland they want to build on with parks nearby. However, park advocates say the current stadium plan doesn?t include enough to rebuild all of the parks slated for removal.

Meanwhile, the Yankees say so far the new stadium has been approved by every process required. The team is currently awaiting approval from the IRS for tax-free federal financing of construction bonds. The National Parks Service, the Army Corps of Engineers and landmark preservationists must also sign off on the stadium plans.
