Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is voicing his opposition to the proposed natural gas terminal in the Long Island Sound as a new federal report about its environmental effects is released.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the body that would oversee the Broadwater Energy barge, says the project will have no significant environmental impact. The impact study would require Broadwater to follow more than 80 guidelines in order to satisfy the environmental concerns.

?This study is ignorantly flawed. It disregards the impact on aquatic life, eco systems. It discounts alternatives that would cause for less environmental damage,? Blumenthal says.

Blumenthal says the plan is dangerous to the environment and national security. He says the Broadwater terminal will be a sitting target in the middle of the Sound.

Located 10 miles off the coast of New Haven, the terminal would primarily service New York City and Long Island.

The project will go in front of a federal commission panel, which can reject it, approve it or set hearings before an administrative law judge.
