A Bridgeport chess teacher says he has seen more success since transitioning to a digital storefront because of the coronavirus.

Teaching kids how to play and win at chess is big business and when coronavirus hit, a Bridgeport-based company took their chess game online and captured a big piece of the action.

Dan Starbuck-Pelletier is the founder of “Dig USA Chess,” which has been tutoring kids in the strategy board game for the past seven years.

When COVID-19 threatened to shut down his chess tutoring business, he strategically transitioned to an online model and says he’s now doing better than ever.

Chess is typically a very social game that involves two players in close proximity of one another.

However, as social distancing becomes the new normal, Starbuck-Pelletier says he won't let it stop him from teaching future generations the fundamentals of the game.

He says he has even reduced prices to help people struggling during the pandemic, and he is promoting safety through distance learning.
