A 20-year-old Bridgeport sexual assault survivor is sharing the story of her assault during her teen years and encouraging other victims to come forward and seek a support system.
Tina says she is taking every step toward healing.
"Any small reminder can remind you of that night," Tina said.
Nanja Raymond, from the Center for Family Justice, helps survivors open the door to healing.
"Share your story, and we're here to listen," Raymond said. "Sexual assault is trauma."
She says it's crucial for someone recovering from sexual assault to know that what happened to them is not their fault.
"We are allowed to talk about it, you are allowed to reach out to people, you are safe,” Raymond said. “We want to create a safe space for you -- and it is your trauma, and we want to respect your trauma and help you work through your trauma."
