A Fairfield-based organization is trying to help those impacted by the deadly wildfires in Australia.

Save the Children has been working in Australia for decades. They are now establishing child-friendly spaces for children and their families hit the hardest by the fires.

Rather than view the deadly destruction outside their window, children can draw, play and socialize with other kids experiencing the same disaster.

Amanda Morgan, the director of humanitarian fundraising, says children are the most vulnerable during a crisis.

"These aren't small adults," said Morgan. "They are experiencing them as a child and aren't fully aware of what's happening, so it's important we allow them the space and the time to help them understand they're safe and that their parents and their communities are going to support them through this."

Morgan says the spaces are important for children and their long-term recovery, but they also help parents who need time to figure out the family's next moves are.

Save the Children is establishing three child-friendly spaces in New South Wales and the territory of Victoria. They plan to establish many more.
