Fairfield officials are crediting fast-thinking neighbors for saving the life of a woman who was found floating in a swimming pool.
It happened at the apartments at the Trademark Building at 655 Commerce Drive. Authorities say the call came in around 8:50 p.m. Sunday. They say bystanders looking out of a window saw the woman face-down in the pool and called down to some men who were in a courtyard.
The men rushed over and pulled the woman out of the pool. The witnesses who were a few apartments up called 911, and the woman was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital.
The woman, age 50, is in stable condition and is resting at home.
Deputy Chief of the Fairfield Fire Department Kyran Dunn says the incident offers a learning experience on water safety. He says swimmers should never go alone, should not swim above their competence level and should not go into deep water unprepared.
Police and fire officials are still investigating how the woman came to be face-down in the pool.
