Dogs rescued from areas impacted by Hurricane Florence arrived on Long Island in search of new homes.
The 21 dogs at North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington came from areas affected by the hurricane.
The dogs were already in shelters or being taken care of by foster families who couldn't bring them along as they evacuated away from the storm's path.
"The foster parent was going to abandon them. She was looking to get out and she had no place for her animals to go. So we told her to get them on the truck to bring them up here to North Shore Animal League,” says Karla Agostinello, of the North Shore Animal League America.
Now, North Shore Animal League America is working to find them forever homes.
North Shore Animal League America is also making another trip down south to help out. It is also collecting pet supplies for the four-legged victims of the storm.
Agostinello, who is leading the second trip into Florence-affected areas says they are looking for paper towels, garbage bags, cat food, dog food, treats, toys and crates.
Some puppies that were rescued from Virginia and the Carolinas aren't available for adoption right now, but should be by the end of next week.
North Shore Animal League America says they'll be accepting pet supply donations until Monday. Its truck heads out Tuesday.
