Second arrest made in case of human remains found in East Meadow
A Hempstead man was denied bail at his arraignment Thursday after being accused in the suspected MS-13 killing of a man found last month in a wooded area of East Meadow.
Jose Quintanilla Cruz, of Hempstead, was already in federal custody when officials learned he was allegedly involved in the killing of 21-year-old Carlos Rivas-Majano.
News 12 reported that Rivas-Majano, 21, of Uniondale, was found in a shallow grave after being stabbed, slashed and hacked to death last August. Authorities acted on tips when they started digging in a wooded area on Glenn Curtis Boulevard, off the Meadowbrook Parkway.
Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said that Rivas-Majano was an MS-13 member.
Cruz is the second person arrested in connection with the slaying. Carlos Benitez-Hernandez has also been charged with murder.
Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said that the recent arrests of alleged and admitted MS-13 gang members have the gang “on the run.”
