Forums to highlight consequences of distracted driving

Law enforcement and elected officials will meet with the public Tuesday to discuss the consequences of distracted driving. 
State Sen. Tony Hwang will moderate two expert panel discussions on distracted driving in Fairfield, Southport, and Westport.
Police departments across Connecticut have been pulling over drivers through the month of April as part of their bi-annual U Drive. U Text. U Pay. campaign.
Infractions range from $150 to $500, depending on if it's the first violation, police say. 
Tuesday's panel will include representatives from AAA Northeast, the Department of Transportation, and Mourning Parents ACT.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,400 people across the United States were killed in 2016 due to a form of distracted driving. The meeting will be held at the Pequot Library in Southport from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
