Westport police will soon have a new tool that could save lives.
Starting in September, police say officers will be carrying Narcan, which is used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
Earlier this year, the state passed a new law requiring first responders to carry the drug, but in most communities, including Westport, that is EMS workers.
Police say they'll also carry the drug because minutes can mean life or death when dealing with an overdose.
Officers will reportedly begin training on how to administer Narcan later this month, and they should have it with them on the streets starting in September.
