Two men were charged after police say they fired a gun from a car in Fairfield while under the influence of alcohol.
The incident happened Wednesday at 8:55 p.m. in the area a Fairfield Woods Road and Stillson Road.
John Blackwell, 31, and Alston Powell, 52, face multiple charges including, illegal discharge of a firearm, discharge of a firearm from a public highway, and illegal carrying of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
Police say Fairfield police special officer was working a security detail in the area and observed the suspects' vehicle traveling eastbound on Fairfield Woods Road.
Patrol officers in the area then located and stopped the vehicle, and the driver and the passenger were taken into custody without incident.
A loaded firearm was found in the car and shell casings were recovered both in the vehicle and on the roadway.
Based on witness statements and admissions from both subjects, it appears as though the firearm was being discharged into the air.
The rounds do not appear to have struck anything.
