Greenwich police say a toddler and infant are safe Saturday thanks to the quick actions of an off-duty officer who rescued them from freezing water.
Police say a stroller carrying a 6-week-old and 13-month-old began rolling and eventually ejected the two stroller seats into Eagle Pond at Greenwich Point around 4 p.m. Friday.
Lt. James Bonney says off-duty Officer Tom Huestis jumped into the pond and rescued both kids.
"He jumped in to action which is what we want," Bonney says.
News 12 is told three other bystanders came over to help Huestis. They say the children and their mother were taken to Stamford Hospital to be checked out, but the family was OK and released.
Police say the family involved is from Stamford and called Huestis' actions "tremendous."
