State fire officials are investigating a fatal blaze that broke out at the Village Walk Condos in Wilton Saturday morning, killing two people.

Firefighters say the flames began just before 8 a.m. in unit number 11 of the condominium complex just off River Road. Fire officials say upon arriving, they found one victim near a bedroom doorway who was dead. A second victim was found unconscious in a stairway and was rushed to Norwalk Hospital in critical condition. Police say the second victim died at the hospital Saturday afternoon.

Neighbors say a man and a woman who both had disabilities lived in that apartment. Fire officials say they were able to extinguish the flames shortly after arriving. Though the fire spread quickly to the back of the unit, it was contained before spreading to other apartments.

Fire officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
