The battle over "ride-sharing" services like Uber could be headed to court.
Eveready taxi company in Stamford and Westport Star Taxi say that the smartphone app Uber is luring their customers way. Because Uber uses private drivers in their own vehicles, the company insists it's not subject to Connecticut's strict taxi cab regulations. Now, Eveready and Westport Star Taxi are suing the state to enforce the same rules and regulations on Uber.
Earlier this year, state lawmakers failed to pass stricter regulations on Uber.
Eveready says if Uber itself can't be held accountable, then drivers should be targeted individually. Legal experts say that the Department of Transportation could go after a few Uber drivers to make an example out of them.
