Two men are safe Monday after their plane crashed into the Long Island Sound.

Officials say the plane took off from MacArthur Airport, then crashed into the waters off of Shoreham around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The two men were able to climb out of the plane and hang onto a rock until help arrived.

The pilot says engine failure is to blame for the crash and that both men are being treated for hypothermia.

Chopper 12 footage shows that the tail of the plane was visibly sticking out of the water.
