Two Torrington mothers put their children, who are high school seniors, and over 1,000 others up for "adoption" on Facebook.
"Adopt-a-2020 Senior Connecticut" was created by Kelly Bournique and Dora Carr, two mothers who say they could tell their children needed an end-of-the-year pick-me-up.
The Facebook group lets parents or friends nominate seniors to be "adopted" by a stranger. Adopted parents then send their students cards, gifts and encouragement to help brighten up an unpredictable senior year.
Carr says with seniors missing out on so many parties and events, it's nice to still give them some recognition for what they've achieved.
