Torrington police officer almost run down in altercation; Derby, Bridgeport men face slew of charges

A man from Derby and another from Bridgeport are facing 30 charges in total stemming from an altercation Friday night with a Torrington police officer.
According to Torrington police, officers were dispatched to Notting Hill Gate for a suspicious persons complaint inside a garage.
"It was reported that the two males arrived in a gray Chevy Suburban that matched the description of a stolen vehicle out of Litchfield that Connecticut State Police were investigating moments before this incident," a new release from the Torrington PD said.
Upon arrival, one of the men refused to listen to the officer and walked up a roadway. Then, a vehicle raced toward the officer and struck his right side. The vehicle ended up hitting a tree.
At that point, police say the two men, still refusing the officers' commands, attempted to get into his cruiser. But the two fled after an altercation with him.
"During the altercation, one of the suspects took off on foot and was later apprehended by Torrington Police and Connecticut State Police in a nearby marsh. The second suspect was apprehended on scene by Officers and placed into handcuffs," according to the release.
Elijah Volpe, 27, of Derby and Frantz Menard, 39, of Bridgeport are each being held on $1,000,000 bond and face a slew of charges that include home invasion, larceny and assault on a police officer.
State police say the pair also face two additional charges for stealing the gray Chevy Suburban.
