Montclair Jazz Festival swings through town for 16th year

"It shows that jazz…is very much alive and well. Maybe not in the same way that it was when it came up in the 40s and 50s, but it's still here and it's there for people to enjoy," said James Pakhomou, a musician.

The 16th annual Montclair Jazz Festival was held Saturday throughout Montclair.

Over a dozen jazz artists performed and 150 vendors participated.

"It shows that jazz…is very much alive and well. Maybe not in the same way that it was when it came up in the 40s and 50s, but it's still here and it's there for people to enjoy," said James Pakhomou, a musician.

The festival is organized by Jazz House Kids. The nonprofit is the only community arts organization in the state that is exclusively dedicated to educating children through jazz.

"It is just the coming together of everything that Jazz House Kids is about. Access, learning, career development, and our last pillar, community building," said Melissa Walker, the nonprofit's founder and president.
