As the holidays roll in, the FAA plans to cut several flights at major airports to maintain safety as the government shutdown lingers on.

The agency cites a lack of air traffic controllers minimizes its normal safety procedures. Air traffic controllers have been working without pay since the shutdown began on Oct. 1, and this is a necessary restriction to enforce.

The Associated Press reports that all the New York City-area airports will be affected, resulting in a 10% cut across 40 busy markets.
