Connecticut will be getting a 1,000 new day care slots in January.

Parents will be able to access them at a discount.

The new slots are part of the new Early Start CT Program, which helps families pay for day care.

Day care providers will receive higher payments that will allow them to hire more people.

"For more parents, it means peace of mind, right? It means the stability, knowing their children are in child care. They can go to work, seek and gain employment, seek higher education," says Early Childhood Commissioner Elena Trueworthy.

By 2027, all child care spots will either be free for families earning less than $100,000 or capped at 7% for families who make more.
