All holiday deliveries don't need to come from the back of a truck.

Sometimes, a handmade, hand-delivered gift will do the trick.

Residents from Edgehill Community in Stamford spent Friday morning with kids from a nearby school.

The residents delivered hand-knitted hats to the Children's Learning Centers of Fairfield County (CLC) on Palmer Hill Road.

It's a five-minute walk from the senior-living community.

For the past 10 years, the seniors have knitted hats to give to the children for the holidays. This year, they made 70 hats.

"We started knitting these hats about six months ago and we also make hats for the homeless men. It's good for us, and it's good for all the people that receive the hats," said Joan Weisman, a resident at Edgehill.

Weisman and several other residents also visit the school regularly to read to the children.

In the past, they've also collected back-to-school items and donated them to the school.

"Introducing our little friends to our senior friends. This intergenerational relationship that we have is so special. When families come in to pick up their children, the first thing they say is, 'Look, mommy. Look at my hat. Look at my hat,'" said Anna Witkowski, director of Child Development at CLC

The children also performed a musical for the residents, singing four songs.
"It works both ways. We love them as grandchildren and they look at us as being grandparents, and it's terrific," Weisman said.

Witkowski said as soon as the weather warms up, they will plan a trip to Edgehill, so the kids can spend time with their friends.
