Following months of community pushback, Con Edison and the New York Public Service Commission agreed upon its rate plan for 2026 through 2028 during a meeting in Albany on Thursday.

The reflected rates and their increases are as followed:

ELECTRIC:

2026: 3.6% total bill rate = $5.27 increase

2027: 3.3% total bill rate = $4.94 increase

2028: 3.2% total bill rate= $4.95 increase

GAS:

2026: 2.4% total bill rate = $5.73 increase2027: 7.8% total bill rate = $19.32 increase 2028: 7.2 % total bill rate = $15.08 increase

A Con Edison spokesperson says their, "investment plan, balances the investments needed for resilient and reliable energy [their] customers need with customer costs."

Though some residents say their bills are already too high.

"With this new increase, I don't know how I am going to survive with only one job," said resident Edeluisa De Guzman.

"This county is already expensive. It's scary to think what the future holds," said resident Ryan Sullivan.

State Sen. Pete Harckham calls the PSC's approval unacceptable.
