A woman is facing criminal charges in Meriden after an investigation involving the alleged sexual abuse of an animal.
The Meriden Police Department Special Crimes Unit began investigating the case with Meriden Animal Control, leading to charges against 43-year-old Kristiina Kennedy.
Police say an arrest warrant was approved charging Kennedy with sexual assault of an animal and sexual assault of an animal by creating and distributing pornography.
Officials say Kennedy surrendered her dog to Meriden Animal Control, and the animal showed no signs of injury.
As part of the investigation, authorities also seized two cats from Kennedy’s residence.
Kennedy turned herself in on Wednesday was processed and released after posting a $10,000 bond, police say. She is scheduled to return to court on May 13.
The City of Meriden is petitioning to retain custody of the two cats, with a hearing scheduled for May 1, at Meriden Superior Court.
