Dozens of students, parents and alumni protested Friday outside of Alexander Hamilton High School.

Among their concerns is a lack of communication from the district, high turnover of staff members and frustration with district leadership.

Dr. Suzanne Phillips, who is a former board member, has been in contact with multiple teachers who she says were allegedly forced to resign.

She says many parents are upset that the district is losing good teachers without reason.

"Parents, families and especially students are concerned that they have been losing teachers. They don't understand why they've been losing teachers. They're primarily teachers of color, regardless of what other sources may say," said Dr. Phillips.

Many, like Adrian Rogers, expressed frustration, saying there has been "no true community engagement since this administration has taken over."

"We just want a seat at the table. These are our children. We pay the school taxes here. The fact that they have not come out and addressed us personally is indicative of how they're treating us," said Rogers, who has two kids in the school district.

When contacted for a comment on Friday, a district spokesperson responded the following:

“The District has addressed this issue multiple times with the News 12 organization and maintains its previous statements. The District will not be providing another statement at this time.”

Elmsford School District statement from May 7th:

"The District has been made aware of a social media post circulating in the community that claims 31 staff members were terminated between January 2025 and May 2026.

This claim is misleading and inaccurate.

Like all school systems, the District experiences normal staff transitions throughout the year, including retirements and voluntary resignations. However, the number and nature of these changes have been misrepresented online and on Channel 12 News.

We understand that misinformation can create concern within our community. We want to reassure our families, staff, and prospective employees that the Elmsford Union Free School District remains a supportive workplace committed to attracting and retaining high-quality educators.

Our focus continues to be on providing an excellent educational environment for our students and maintaining a strong workforce. We encourage community members to rely on official district communications for accurate information."
