While the NYPD is celebrating historic reductions in crime across New York City, statistics show one Bronx precinct is moving in the opposite direction in several key categories.

The NYPD announced Thursday that the city recorded the fewest shooting incidents, shooting victims and murders in recorded history during the first half of 2026. Overall major crime is down 5.8% citywide, with the Bronx leading all boroughs with a 12% decline.

But in the 50th Precinct, which covers Riverdale, Kingsbridge and Marble Hill, shooting incidents have doubled year-to-date, increasing from three to six compared to the same period last year. The number of shooting victims rose 150%, from four to 10.

The precinct also saw a sharp increase in reported sex crimes. Rape complaints doubled from 16 to 32, while other sex crimes increased 166.7%, rising from 21 to 56 year-to-date.

Across the Bronx however, numbers are improving.

  • The Bronx led the entire city with 14.6% drop in overall crime for quarter 2 (7,051 vs. 8,258) and also led the city in year-to-date declines with a 11.7% drop in overall crime (13,434 and 15,208).

  • Murders in the Bronx were down across the board, with a 33% drop in the second quarter of the year (22 vs. 33), and a 13% drop (45 vs. 52) since the beginning of the year.

  • In the second quarter of the year, robberies dropped 24.7% (1,002 vs. 1,331). And since the start of 2026, robberies dropped 17.1% (1,921 vs. 2,318).

  • The Bronx led the city in grand larceny declines, with a 17.5% drop in the second quarter of the year (1,976 vs. 2,396), and a 13.6% decrease since the beginning of the year (3,882 vs. 4,491).

  • The Bronx led the city in declines in auto theft, with a 32.8% drop in the second quarter (808 vs. 1,203), and a 26.4% drop since the start of the year (1,619 vs. 2,199)

  • In the second quarter of the year, the Bronx saw a 16% decline in shooting incidents, and a 17% decline in shooting victims.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the citywide decline is the result of precision policing, targeted enforcement and gang takedowns, with more than 2,530 illegal guns seized so far this year.
