Following the powerful rain, hail, and windstorm that struck communities across Connecticut on the Fourth of July, Eversource crews — including line, tree, service crews in the field and system operators behind the scenes —continue to assess widespread damage and restore power to affected customers.

As of Sunday morning in New Canaan, an Eversource report cited by the town’s Office of Emergency Management indicates that approximately 60% of the town is without power. About 5,194 customers in New Canaan are impacted. The company has a crew en route to a substation issue affecting roughly 4,500 customers, with no estimated restoration times provided.

Across Connecticut, as of 2 p.m., Eversource reported that roughly 60,000 customers have had power restored since the storm began, while approximately 62,000 customers remain without power statewide.

The company is bringing in additional crews from across the region, including Massachusetts and New Hampshire, as well as contractor support from states such as Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York, and even from Canada, to assist with restoration efforts.

Eversource stated that crews will continue working around the clock until service is restored to all affected customers.

Eversource President of Connecticut Electric Operations Don Scacco said the storm was significantly more powerful and widespread than forecasted, with winds exceeding 65 mph causing extensive damage across multiple states.

Scacco noted that fallen trees and branches brought down power lines and equipment, and that crews have been prioritizing clearing blocked roads and repairing systems to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.
