New Jersey officials are calling the FIFA World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium a success, highlighting the massive security operation that kept fans safe throughout the tournament.

The Attorney General’s Office thanked law enforcement agencies at the local, state and federal levels for their efforts, while New Jersey State Police described the World Cup as “a very successful operation.”

With the tournament now over, NJ Transit President and CEO Kris Kolluri said the agency delivered on its promise to get fans to and from the matches safely and efficiently. However, he acknowledged the agency is now reviewing the financial impact of the event after drawing criticism over $98 train tickets.

Kolluri said FIFA left NJ Transit to shoulder significant costs, and the agency will spend the coming weeks analyzing the numbers. He also noted that despite efforts to encourage fans to take trains, many chose to drive to MetLife Stadium, adding that taxpayers should not be responsible for covering the costs of hosting events like the World Cup.
