A man was stabbed multiple times in Fordham Monday afternoon.

According to NYPD, the stabbing happened just after 6:40 pm at the Fordham Road Subway station.

When police responded to the scene, they found a 46-year-old man with stab wounds to his chest, neck and hand.

It is unclear at this time if the stabbing occurred on the train or on the platform.

According to the NYPD's CompStat for the week of 8/31-9/6, there have been at least 26 transit crimes this year-to-date in the area covered by the 46th precinct. That's compared to the 20 reported transit crimes this time last year.

On Tuesday, News 12 spoke to Cara Gardella, who was commuting at the Fordham Road Station. Gardella said she uses the MTA regularly and feels transit crime is expected to happen on transit every once in a while.

"It's an occurrence that happens here. We're a high population. It's to be considered, especially on a system that runs 24 hours a day. Things are going to happen, you know? So I'm not gonna allow it to affect my stride," shared Gardella.

Police transported the 46-year-old man to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he is expected to recover.

Police have not shared if the victim and suspect knew each other.

There are no arrests at this time.
