A Southern Connecticut State University student was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement over the holiday weekend at Tweed New Haven Airport, the Department of Homeland Security says.
A department spokesperson says ICE agents arrested Deng Deng on Sept 4. The department says he legally entered the country but "illegally overstayed."
A spokesperson for the university says they are in contact with the South Sudan native and their priority remains his safety and well-being.
"Tweed-New Haven Airport, like all public airports, is subject to federal law enforcement agencies and has no visibility into or influence over enforcement activity," said a spokesperson for the airport.
