An iconic piece of Atlantic City oceanfront history just hit the real estate market for $85 million.

The famous Steel Pier, once billed as the "Showplace of the Nation," is one of the most recognizable landmarks on the East Coast. At just over five acres, the amusement pier sits on the famous Atlantic City boardwalk, across from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

The 150-feet wide by 965-feet long property also includes a helipad and condo-hotel approvals. The pier, which remained intact during Superstorm Sandy, is anchored 90 feet into bedrock. It also includes a 40,000-square-foot building with a sky bridge connecting to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

“How often does someone get to own a piece of the ocean? That's exactly what this offers. The Steel Pier isn't just five acres on the most famous boardwalk in the world, it actually offers the chance to own the Atlantic itself and build something unforgettable on top of it. There is nothing else like it on the East Coast,” said Ryan Serhant, founder and CEO of real estate marketing company Serhant.

The Steel Pier was originally built in 1897 and officially opened in 1898. It was home to the first boardwalk in the nation. In 2011, the property was acquired by the Catanoso family and underwent several major improvements including a new office building complex and refurbishment of the sky bridge.

Over the years, the Steel Pier was used as a filming location for several major productions including "The Bounty Hunter," "The Long Kiss Goodnight," the television series "Cake Boss," and several music videos. Legendary performed have taken the stage at the pier such as New Jersey's own Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. The pier was also home to the controversial "diving horse" act in the early 1900s.
