Power to Feed food collection drive comes to Woodbury

PSEG Long Island and Island Harvest Food Bank are continuing their initiative to fight food insecurity with the second-to-last Power to Feed event of the summer today.
Donation collection will take place in the Stop & Shop parking lot at 8101 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This initiative comes at a crucial time when donations tend to drop off from the summer into the early fall and as the cost of groceries remains high across the island.
Roughly 240,000 Long Islanders experience food insecurity every year, according to Island Harvest Food Bank.
Volunteers are collecting non-perishable goods, household items, toiletries, baby essentials and pet supplies.
Island Harvest Food Bank will distribute the donations to Long Island families through local soup kitchens, nourishment centers, food pantries and other outreach programs.
Long Islanders have donated the equivalent of nearly 153,000 meals to this initiative over the past five years.
There are eight food collection events throughout the summer.
The last one of the year is taking place next Friday, Sept. 25 at the Stop & Shop at 365 Route 109 in West Babylon from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
