A 50-year-old man died following a crash in Mott Haven on Wednesday morning, according to the NYPD.
Emergency personnel responded to East 145th Street and Brook Ave at around 8:30 a.m. Police say the man was riding a two-wheeled device when he collided with a Ford pickup truck.
Citizen app footage shows paramedics giving the man CPR as he lies unconscious on the pavement.
Investigators say the man sustained trauma to the head and body.
EMS rushed him to Lincoln Hospital, where he died.
The driver of the truck stayed at the scene of the crash, according to the NYPD.
Residents shared their reactions and concerns about safety at the intersection. Fatou, a nursing student heading to class, described seeing emergency crews trying to save the man.
“Ambulance came and they took him in and they were doing CPR on him. And then I asked one of the people standing there [if] he’s still breathing and they’re like, ‘They’re trying their best,’” she said.
Another resident said she had previously been hit by a bicycle, while others expressed concerns about people ignoring traffic rules.
“They are crazy. One time someone hit me and I flew in the middle of the street, and he said he didn’t see me,” she said.
Kari, who has lived in the area for more than 15 years, said this is the fourth crash she has witnessed at the intersection.
Police say the man's identity is pending family notification.
